    Pamban Bridge is another fascination in Rameshwaram which is worth visiting when on a Rameshwaram visit. It is situated at a distance of 7 km from Rameshwaram. It is the first sea bridge to be built in India. With a length of 2.6 km (rail bridge) and 2.3 km (road bridge), this bridge is constructed on artificial sandstone and has been formed in the shape of an arch. It has around 43 pillars supporting the structure and about 64 pillars that have been built in the sea itself.

    Constructed as a part of the South Indian Railway project, this bridge was finished in 1912, its construction was begun in the year of 1887. Pamban Bridge is the second biggest bridge in India, after the Bandra-Worli sea link that has been built as of late. The Pamban rail bridge is additionally thought to be the longest rail bridge. This railway bridge has been upgraded to carry broad-gauge trains by Indian Railways in 2007.

    Pamban bridge is likewise related to a legend, it is trusted that this bridge has been built at a holy place named Pamban. Pamban is the place where Lord Rama has thrown an arrow to the ground in order to get the water to satiate Goddess Sita’s thirst.
